How do I find government tenders in India?
Central government purchases of goods and services are published on the Government e-Marketplace (GeM), and most state and PSU works tenders appear on their own e-procurement portals. The practical route for an MSME is to search GeM by the product category you actually sell, filter by state and buyer, and set up alerts so new bids reach you instead of you hunting for them.
Where tenders are published
- GeM (gem.gov.in) is the central marketplace for goods and services bought by ministries, departments, PSUs and many state bodies. Every bid has a bid number, a closing date, a buyer and a product category.
- State e-procurement portals and PSU sites carry works contracts and some large services; each has its own registration.
- iBid.Win mirrors GeM. Where a page on this site says a portal is covered, its data is live here; where it does not, it is not.
How to search well
- Search by category, not by keyword alone. GeM titles are long and repetitive ("Manpower Outsourcing Services - Minimum wage - Semi-skilled…"), so the category is the reliable handle. Browse tenders by category.
- Narrow by state when delivery location matters to your cost, and by ministry when you know who buys what you sell. By state · By ministry.
- Read the closing date first. A bid that closes in two days is rarely worth a first-time effort; a bid with a pre-bid meeting a week away is.
